Leibniz also wrote of different "types" of monads - such as: simple monads,
found in nature and animals; "self-conscious" monads, found in humans; and
"spiritual" monads, which are in direct contact with God and work on a moral
level.  Since monads are also "living things," Leibniz believed the universe
is an organic universe, full of life.  He also claimed each monad contained
the entire universe - past, present, and future - within it. . ..  Fascinating.
