        Dear paul,

This answer is mostly to say I hear ya, because these things puzzle me just
as much as they do you. When I get such warnings, I play my response by ear.
If I feel I ought to stay home I'll stay home, but, I think, more often I
would opt to go anyway anyway, & btry to be on the look out.  As for real
advice on how to handle such events, the above is pure conjecture.
