lemniscus
Bee:
Couldn't find lemniscate in my dictionary either, but perhaps the word defined
below is related to what HPB is saying.

lemniscus (lem-nis'kes) noun
plural lemnisci (-nis'i', -nis'ki', -nis'ke)
Anatomy.
A bundle or band of sensory nerve fibers.
[Latin lemniscus, ribbon, from Greek lemniskos.]
