Re: Fundamentalism/Freedom

The comments about the personalities and principles of the
writers of the Declaration and Constitution certainly show that
they were wide ranging in their attitudes and ways and means,
however, the fact that such documents were written and agreed to
before and after a war (which, if lost would have meant the
gallows) is the demonstration of the founding principles upon
which the U.S. ideal is based. The brilliance of this ideal and
its practical expression in the Constitution is that it frames
the resolution of problems and opportunities as part of the
process of responsible freedom and allows for the expansion of
this freedom and responsibility to all. Implicit in this are the
two greatest commandments and the golden rule.

"Our cause is the cause of all of humanity." -- Benjamin
Franklin.

Patrick
